D2D: Direct to Designer Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2010, Paris Je t’aime
Despite the horrid weather, Rebecca Minkoff said the show must go on, and oh it was definitely on. Inspired by fashionable Parisiennes, Rebecca does it again with this très chic and très wearable collection of apparel and handbags. Pleated skirts over tights, moto-jackets in softer fabrics, sweet dresses under trenches and oversized blazers.
These models looked like they were stylish girls hanging out downtown who just walked into the show and onto that platform… of course with their zippered, studded, and tasseled handbags in amazing textures and colors. We LOVE that.
But we don’t have to keep trying to describe it to you… watch the video and see for yourself, then visit DesignerSocial to shop Rebecca Minkoff handbags.

Coming Soon from LV: Emotion Monitoring Bags- A bag that feels what you feel.
Louis Vuitton bags and wallets will now be able to detect owners’ emotions thanks to these new jewelry accessories. The bag incorporates a new HERM (heart and emotion rate monitor) in the form of a piece of jewelry which can be purchased with a bag or separately at Louis Vuitton stores.
When attached to a bag the HERM automatically transmits your location and heartbeat via Bluetooth/WiFi to the owner’s smartphone. In sticking with their “Journey” theme, the concept is that the owner will be able to re-trace a trip that they took with their bag, and note when they were happy or sad. While we love the ingenuity, and applaud the brand for trying to create a broader social platform, is this a little far-fetched and/or gimmicky?
Realistically speaking do you know/care if your bag knows how you “feel”? We love handbags as much as the next girl, but for the sake of their own beauty and the way they make US feel. Just seems a little “Cabbage Patch Kids” or “Virtual Pettish” to us.
From: LV Art Director Fernando Lahoz’s website as reported by BoF.
WOULD YOU PAY $1800 FOR THESE?
As much we love shoes, that’s a bit spendy for most of the US population. But apparently, Prada doesn’t have much faith in the American consumer either. A Fashionista spy tried them on recently in the Soho store, and when she asked to be put on the waiting list (just for the hell of it) she discovered that all three pairs- which is the ENTIRE Spring shipment- were already allotted to the Trainas (as in Samantha, Vanessa etc).. figures. I wonder if they know that they literally bought out Prada this season.
Obviously the shoes are not meant to be worn by us mere mortals, but rather meant to look great in their ad campaign and in magazines. Hope this isn’t a sign of things to come, Prada.

GEMMA REDUX CLAIMS SPOT AS FINALIST FOR CFDA INCUBATOR INITIATIVE
As announced earlier this month, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, together with the CFDA will choose one emerging fashion design talent to inhabit a beautiful new Manhattan workspace. We are so excited that one of our favorite new vendors, Rachel Dooley, is among the 12 finalists for the program, announced today by WWD.
Her line, Gemma Redux, has been wildly successful at retail, and to say she’s an “up-and-comer” is not really accurate by our view- but there certainly could not be a more deserving candidate. Check out some of the designs from her Spring/Summer collection just out now on DS.
CHANEL’s “Classics” just got a little more so..
According to sales associates at several of their Manhattan boutiques, prices are going up, up, up starting Feb 1 from $50 to several hundred dollars commensurate with demand for the item. Topping the list is the Jumbo Classic Quilted Caviar Chain Bag which will go from $2650 to $2995. And the funny part of it is- Chanel deflects any bad press from potentially disgruntled bagaholics by telling them they should be lucky to have one!
According to the boutique on 57th Street there is a 30-35 person waiting list. Who do they think they are— Hermes? As much as it pains me to admit that I bought a bag “off the rack”, I must tell you that I bought this very bag at that very store about a month ago and there was no wait at all- so who knows. I suppose now I can sell it for what I bought it for and it will still be under market value, making it the only “appreciated” asset I’ve owned in a very long while.

WHEN SHE’S RIGHT, SHE’S RIGHT..
With all of her commercial and television success sometimes we forget how freakin’ amazing Rachel Zoe is as a stylist.. but we must give credit where credit is due- the woman has an eye. We love these LV beautes she featured on her blog today. Keeping with the accessories overload theme, they are quite unique for Louis Vuitton and perfect for Spring!

Accessorizing with DesignerSocial:
Let’s play a little dress-up with Dree Hemmingway and Becka Diamond. These girls don’t need much to make a statement, and often make their effortless chic outfits complete with small details in accessories. Any girl can throw on a pair of black skinny jeans, an oversized sweater, and a cool leather jacket. But by adding the right cuff, bag, or ring (and a little bit of attitude) you can turn that look into something street fashion bloggers will snap their shutters for.
We think that these three pieces from the DesignerSocial closet would look great on either ‘It Girl’!
-
Botkier Logan Satchel- Gorgeous distressed black lambskin tote with fringe tassels and antique brass hardware.
-
Couture Beaded Gemstone Bracelet by John Galliano- Amazing one of a kind piece. Authentic black lace shrouds set gemstones over a beaded body.
-
Mali Ring by Dannijo- For the tough girl that loves her Rock’n’roll and effortless attire. You’ll find her in zip jeans, a tee, studded pumps, and well, the Mali ring. Yeah, she’s cool.

As reported today by WWD, Subversive’s Justin Giunta will be the new Design Director of Jewelry for Tory Burch. The seven year old label has met with considerable commercial success in it’s own right by subscribing to a self-proclaimed edict of “more is more”. His first collection for Tory will debut for holiday-resort this year, and his unique, handcrafted, collage-y design aesthetic should lend a much needed synergistic edge to the ubiquitous “teetering on mass” fashion label.

Heads(bands) Will (Rock &)Roll
This Vallerina headband by Corrie Wright is one of our favorite pieces currently on DesignerSocial. It screams super sweet at first glance, with the girly tan bow… but upon close inspection we see the amazing gold zipper detailing and brass studs that are far from your little sister’s hair accessory. We kind of think it’s the perfect topper for the sweet turned edgy Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl.

All Hail Valentino
We all remember the epic documentary, Valentino The Last Emperor (for those that haven’t seen it, it’s currently available to watch instantly on Netflix). The man certainly is a living legend, responsible for so many beautiful pieces known in the fashion world today. As everyone gave their thanks last week… we of course were thankful for Valentino.

To be more specific, as we added new bags to our selection we were proud to include the Valentino Petale Tote, in red and grey. Because it’s current, it’s full price everywhere else, but on DesignerSocial full price is just not our style.

This bag is certain to make you the center of attention on the holiday scene.

Zip It Good
It isn’t new news that motorcycle is all over the place this season. We’ve got publications spanning from Elle to Lucky to Teen Vogue telling us how to “rock out” style-wise. What does that mean exactly? Leather and zippers.
As the fashion cycle rears its ugly head, we’re inundated with zips to the point of overkill. If you’re not careful you’ll end up looking like a tacky gutter punk wannabe. How do we dabble in the trend in a subtle sophisticated way?
Kooba has the answer this Winter 2009, with the Jagger bag. Soft supple leather with single zips on the front, back and sides that complement the shape while keeping it simple and elegant.

It’s the perfect in-between look. As Goldilocks would say- not to soft, not to hard… these Jagger bags do it just right.
