Ok we realize this is basically a commercial for Target, but it also happens to be a pretty cute little segment. Our big takeaway: her name is pronounced “TAH-vi” not “Tay-vi”..
Here, a brief snapshot of what WWD called a “misstep” for Jacobs, his Fall runway collection for Louis Vuitton, and the last of the Paris shows.

Looks like the only thing good to come from this collection were the bags.. Jacobs redid the 80 year-old Speedy, which had originally been called the “Express” by re-imaging the bag in incredible treatments- flocked and sequined monograms, cloque, lace and Damier checks re-created in fox fur and hand-painted croc.. Mais Oui!

Add Chloe to the ever-expanding list of designers trying to appeal to a broader fan base via online streaming video. Not long after yesterday’s FW 2010-11 runway show, Chloe sent out a link to their subscribers to see it first-hand on their site.

Fair warning.. it’s not a short clip (it’s the entire show). And Hannah MacGibbon gives us a menswear inspired collection more reminiscent of Woody Allen’s Annie Hall than the ‘boyfriend jeans’ and ‘boyfriend shirts’ that we’ve been seeing as of late. The sea of boxy grays and browns requires a true visionary to style the pieces with the right accessories in order to make them street ready.

But we’re posting the link to let you decide for yourself…

Congrats to Sara Cornell who picked all three Botkier styles that we are carrying this Spring. And thank you to everyone one who entered. Judging by the response to this contest, we will definitely do it again for Fall with another featured designer.

Sara picked the Howard Street Satchel in Fuschia, featured above as her prize, but all three bags are currently available on designersocial.com.

DESIGNER PROFILE: JEREMY SCOTT

Inspired by none other than Kelly Cutrone last night on Kell On Earth, we decided to probe a bit and put the spotlight on a designer who is off the beaten fashion path, and always left of center. His iconic collections feature wild, outrageous pop art themes, and this latest (FW2010) was no exception.

Admittedly, what caught our attention was the kitschy collaboration pliage bag that he has done with Longchamp since 2006 for his front-row clientele and uber-quirky fan base. Here, a photo of the most recent creation rests comfortably under Leigh Lezark’s feet:

In uncovering some of his genius we remembered seeing the muppet diva, Miss Piggy at one of his shows a few seasons back. (She has claimed- along with Agyness Deyn, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, that he is her favorite designer.) Karl Lagerfeld has also said that “[he] Scott was the only designer who could ever take over after him when he leaves Chanel” (LeMonde).

The industry gathered solemnly yesterday at Francois Pinault’s headquarters to view the 15 piece collection that will be his last. As always, he manages to push the envelope (even now) ever so slightly forward by evolving his successful collection from last season with digitally engineered prints that embody the spirit of “Avatar-esque” futurism.

Buyers will be invited to view the entire 160 piece collection at his showroom Thursday, and parent company, PPR has said the line will continue where he left off. Rumors have swirled about bringing Gareth Pugh- who’s most recent collection was coined “the Wizard of Oz meets Predator” for his stark modernist interpretations. However, Pugh’s people flatly deny that.

EDITORS PICK

And with the harsh economic environment designers (and consumers) have endured the last couple seasons, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for a lower-priced line. Priced from $78 to $675 and exclusive to Saks for the time-being, the line includes a smattering of pants, cardigans and skirts, as well as sheer print dresses and figure-hugging knits. Asked why he decided to launch this collection, Posen has said that he, “..wanted to create the ultimate new American look. [a collection] that was utilitarian and minimalist. With popping bright colors and a cleanliness of preppy quality.”

Looks like he nailed it. And as for accessories, Posen has collaborated with designers such as Pamela Love, Yaz Bukey and Manolo Blahnik for his RTW collections in the past, but never ventured out to do them on his own. We are excited to hear that he WILL be rolling out accessories for Z Spoke in Fall 2010.

Not to pick on ALT but..

Apparently he started using his Twitter account the day after we (and probably the rest of the world) made fun of his comments about social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter.

As much as they will deny it, the answer is YES. And Madison Avenue Spy reports that it starts today. 40-60% off Spring 09 RTW + hats, gloves and probably scarves. But no bags that we’ve heard of. Happening at Hermes Wall Street: 15 Broad, NYC.

However, having been to the HERMES SAMPLE SALE we’re here to tell you that they sell tons of bags and everything else. The only trick is that you need to be an employee or press to attend the first day which is when the good stuff usually goes. But if you want to stand in line or try your luck, it will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion, March 23-28.

EDITORS PICK

AGAIN!
Continuing from FW2009 and SS2010,...

Dolce & Gabbana- with Wedges

Dolce & Gabbana- with Wedges

Prada- with Mules: Proceed w/ Caution!

Prada- with Sandals

Marni- with Shooties

Marni- with Pointy Bow Wedges

SOCK IT TO ME.. AGAIN!

Continuing from FW2009 and SS2010, without question the most ubiquitous trend from the Milan shows last week (besides fur) was socks or stockings with EVERYTHING. Three of the most respected collections (shown here) featured the sock phenom prominently.

So if you haven’t tried it yet, don’t be afraid to venture out. You have at least 6 more months to get it right. But unless you are an expert, you may want to start here:

-It’s easier (and more wearable) to match similar color schemes (ie grey on black- a la Dolce, above)

-Ideally choose socks that have a little slouch to them

-Socks should be worn just below the knee

-Socks or stockings that are lightweight with a little texture create a nice effect

Good luck and send us your pics!

Vogue Magazine’s Creative Director,...

Andre Leon Talley. Photo: AltamiraNYC

GC and ALT (far right)

Grace Coddington. Photo: StyleCaster

PUT A MUZZLE ON THEM

Vogue Magazine’s Creative Director, Grace Coddington and Editor at Large, Andre Leon Talley weigh in on fashion reported by social media.. quotes excerpted from NY Magazine’s “The Cut” (Today)-

GC: “André and I were agreeing that we don’t Twitter, we don’t blog, ” said Coddington. “I have a Facebook and a Twitter, I’m told, but I certainly didn’t start it and I certainly don’t, you know, look at it. I’ve never looked at it, and I certainly don’t add to it.”

ALT: “Please! It’s fraudulent, it’s fraudulent! It’s fake, it’s bogus,” ALT interjected vehemently when informed he had both a Twitter and Facebook account in his name. “We really care about how something’s done and it takes us a long time to do it.”

GC: “And it’s better for it, it really is. It’s done better. If you do something fast — which is what all those things make you do because you’re spending your whole time reading and then it’s outdated in ten minutes or something — I don’t think that’s good for fashion because we are, we’re trying to speed up all those poor designers so they have fifteen collections a year, and it’s stupid because how many dresses can you wear? It makes them do it not so well, or they have a breakdown, as just very sadly happened. Alexander McQueen killed himself, and that’s part of that hysteria. It breaks my heart.”

ALT: “We come from the generation and the school — I call it old-school, and old-school is good. New-school is great, but old-school is better, and we have just been brought up in a world where … standards were high and we try to be the standard-bearers of that kind of quality for Vogue.”

Vomitous. Please. Wake up already.

1) AMQ did not kill himself because of Twitter.

2) This sounds like a conversation my lame grandparents would have (if I had any). Not to mention the fact that it is massively hypocritical considering that there is a six page article about how bloggers are “making a global industry (fashion) stand up and take notice” in this month’s (March) issue of Vogue. We know they don’t check their Facebook and Twitter accounts, maybe Andre and Grace don’t read the magazine either.
